Steve is a lecturer, researcher, and the CRE Tech lead in the MIT Real Estate Innovation Lab, focused on innovative new technology and business models that are reinventing the traditional ways of developing, transacting and managing real estate. He is also Head of Industry Relations at the MIT Center for Real Estate, responsible for managing relationships between the Center and its global network of industry partners and over 1,300 alumni, representing 48 countries.
Steve is a member of the Global Insights Panel for MIT Technology Review, a member of the CREtech Climate Leadership Board, and sits on the advisory boards of six real estate technology start-ups. He was the Founder of MIT Real Disruption, a successful series of conferences discussing the impact of emerging technology on the real estate industry that is now part of the global CREtech media platform. Steve speaks extensively about real estate technology for corporate clients around the world and at conferences for AFIRE, AsRES, BOMA, CCIM, CoreNet, CREW, ICSC, IREM, NAIOP, PERE, SIOR, and ULI. He has been quoted by numerous media outlets, including BuzzFeed, TechInsider, Medium, USA Today, CP Executive, Harvard Real Estate Review, the Boston Globe, GlobeSt. the Real Reporter, Travel Weekly, IPE Real Assets Europe and Anuario Inmobiliario LatinoAmerica.
Steve holds a Master’s of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) and Master’s in City Planning (MCP) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a law degree from Suffolk University Law School.
Laura Adams, Managing Director, has spent over 20 years at Morgan Stanley in an assortment of institutional banking roles throughout North America giving her a unique perspective on both public and private capital markets. Her exceptional understanding of the investor world directs TAS on how to approach capital raises and fund offerings.
Cheryl is the immediate past president of IREM (Institute of Real Estate Management) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of REIC (Real Estate Institute of Canada).
With over 40 years of experience in commercial real estate, Cheryl is currently engaged in the industry as a Real Estate Strategist. She speaks extensively on sustainability, prop tech, smart buildings, pandemic response planning, cyber security and real estate management best practices. In March 2021, Cheryl joined REACH Canada as a mentor to guide Canadian prop tech firms developing their businesses in the real estate industry. She has been acknowledged by the industry for her expertise and contributions, having received recognition and awards for her work by many associations and organizations throughout her career.
Cheryl served as an Executive Vice President and then Head of Special Projects at QuadReal Property Group from January 2017 until December 2020, with a focus on leading enterprise innovation teams that provide expertise on sustainability, environmental health & safety and property management best practices and digital innovation. Prior to QuadReal, Cheryl held executive roles at Bentall Kennedy and senior roles with many leading Canadian real estate firms with responsibility for office, industrial, retail and residential portfolios.
Cheryl earned her Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation from IREM in 1990 and holds a degree in Economics from the University of Waterloo.
Anatol is a Venture Capitalist investing in early stage technology companies. Prior to this, he was the CEO of banks owned by Scotiabank in five different countries, which has provided him a lens on global banking that is truly unique. His understanding of finance and lending within the Canadian context has been invaluable in guiding TAS’s strategy as we scale our projects and organization to ensure that we have the corresponding financial resilience to support our ongoing and long term banking needs at both the project and corporate levels.
Ali’s global finance and private equity career has taken him around the world in the boardrooms of public and private companies. As a seasoned investment banker, he has been behind the growth and restructuring of numerous international companies. As a fund manager his deep understanding of asset allocation and strategy have been insightful to TAS.
